Do you like to play computer games? Would you like to learn how to build one for yourself?
Come and join Andre Gapper for a 6 week introduction to coding games using real code with the fun and engaging Pico-8 programming environment.
Andre has worked as a developer for many years across a variety of sectors including the computer games industry and has a long history of teaching coding to adults and children alike.
In this 6-week course you will start from the very beginning with no prior knowledge and by the end of your first session you will:
Understand how computer games draw and update their on-screen characters using the game loop.
Have created your own simple game character.
Written code to make your character move around the screen.
Have gained practical experience of key programming concepts like variables, conditions, functions, and 2D coordinates.
You will do all this using a real programming language, Lua, which is widely used in the games industry for scripting in modern games such as Roblox, Baldur's Gate, Civilization VI, Crysis, Factorio, World of Warcraft, and Far Cry among many others.
So, what are you waiting for? Come along and join us!

DESCRIPTION
Suitability and Hardware Requirements
The course will be suitable for ages 11 + No prior knowledge is required; all necessary maths will be covered as we go – it won’t look like maths; it will be cleverly disguised as fun!
No specialised equipment is needed, just a laptop (Mac or Windows) that can run a modern browser, preferably with a mouse for the sprite drawing parts. A mouse isn’t absolutely necessary, but will make the sprite drawing easier as touch pads can be difficult to use for
drawing and touch screens don’t work properly with the Pico-8 web editor.
