About Us
Our Story
We are a husband-and-wife team and parents with over 35 years of combined teaching experience in Science and Mathematics across South Wales.
After COVID, we witnessed the heart-wrenching struggles of many capable students who found themselves unable to attend school due to social anxiety or unmet Additional Learning Needs (ALN). As parents ourselves, we deeply understand the challenges that families face when they feel "forced" into home education, often overwhelmed and
uncertain about how to begin this new journey.
This profound realisation inspired us to establish Crossroads—to offer compassionate support to families navigating this challenging transition and to empower them to provide a high-quality education for their children.
Meet The Team

Kate Gibson
Co-founder
Hi, I’m Kate. I’ve been a Science teacher for 20 years, specialising in Biology, and I have a real passion for making learning fun and accessible — especially for students with additional needs. I’m also a mum, and when I’m not teaching, I love spending time with animals and enjoying music. My goal is always to create a welcoming space where every child can thrive.
Gavin Gibson
Co-founder
Hi, I’m Gavin. I’ve been a Science and Maths teacher for nearly 20 years and love inspiring students to be their best. I’m passionate about sparking curiosity and creating a fun, engaging, and safe space where every student can thrive. Outside the classroom, I enjoy making things explode (in the name of science!), cars, and trying to beat my son at jiu-jitsu.

Carrie Powell
EXAM OFFICER
Hi, I’m Carrie. I bring over 20 years of experience across business and voluntary sectors, as well as the lived experience of being a mum to two neurodiverse children. As your Exam Officer (and the friendly voice behind your emails), I’m passionate about creating a level playing field so ALN students can sit their exams with confidence. With a methodical approach and genuine care, I aim to make the exam process as smooth and supportive as possible.

James Odlum
TUTOR
Hi, I’m James. I’ve been teaching science and maths for over 20 years, making tricky ideas easier and more enjoyable for students aged 11–18. I love hands-on learning, from experiments in the lab to step-by-step problem solving, and I care just as much about supporting students personally as I do academically. Outside the classroom, you’ll usually find me with my family, swimming, climbing, woodworking — or running a “science experiment” at the barbecue!

Abby Klammer
TUTOR
Hi, I’m Abby. I’m a qualified teacher with 13 years’ experience working with children aged 3–16, both in the UK and abroad. Now focusing on tutoring, I love helping each child reach their full potential through a learning style that suits them best.
