Looking Back on a Year of Growth, Community, and New Beginnings in Home Education
As Christmas approaches and the year begins to draw to a close, we at Crossroads have been taking time to pause, reflect, and give thanks.
This past year has been one of growth, challenge, collaboration, and hope and we’re proud of how far our home education community has come.
Walking Alongside Home Educating Families
From the very beginning of the year, our work has centred on one thing: supporting home educating families across Wales and beyond to find educational pathways that truly work for their children. Throughout the months, we’ve walked alongside families as they navigated learning plans, qualifications, confidence building, and the many decisions that come with personalised and alternative education.
We’ve seen learners grow in independence, curiosity, and self-belief. We’ve celebrated achievements both big and small, and we’ve been there during the quieter moments too, the planning stages, the uncertainty, and the reassurance that sometimes makes all the difference.
A Major Milestone: Our Exam Centre
One of the most significant developments this year has been the opening of Crossroads Exam Centre, the first private exam centre in Wales, created specifically with home-educated learners in mind. This has been a long-held goal, shaped by listening to families who needed an exam environment that was accessible, understanding, and supportive.
As we head into Christmas, the centre is open and operational, and we are now awaiting our official centre number. This moment feels symbolic, standing at a crossroads between vision and reality, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has encouraged, supported, and trusted us as we took this important step forward.
Learning Through Collaboration
This year has also reminded us of the power of collaboration in home education support. We’ve been privileged to work alongside organisations who share our values and belief in inclusive, curiosity-led learning.
Our collaborations with The Meadows, Techniquest, and Agored Cymru have enriched learning experiences, opened new opportunities, and helped learners connect with education beyond traditional settings. These partnerships reinforce what we see time and again: education flourishes when communities work together.
A Growing Team and Community
Crossroads has continued to grow, not just in reach, but in connection. Alongside our families, our team of tutors has grown, united by shared values of compassion, flexibility, and learner-centred education.
Through consultations, tutoring, resources, and conversations, we’ve built a community grounded in trust, compassion, and respect for each child’s unique home education journey. Each story shared and each milestone reached reminds us why this work matters.
Reflecting with Gratitude
As we reflect on the year, we are deeply thankful for:
- Community - the home educating families, learners, tutors, partners, and supporters across Wales and beyond who walk this journey with us
- Growth - academic progress, personal development, and organisational milestones
- Hope - for the futures being shaped and the possibilities still to come
As Christmas arrives, we wish all our families and partners a season of rest, warmth, and joy. May this time offer space to pause, reconnect, and celebrate the learning, and living, you’ve done together this year.
Thank you for trusting us and for allowing us to walk beside you at every educational crossroads.
From all of us at Crossroads, Merry Christmas!
