About Crossroads

A Personal Note to Parents Considering Home Education

Dear Parent,

If you’ve found yourself here, chances are you’re exploring new options for your child and maybe feeling a mix of uncertainty, concern, and hope about what comes next.

We’re Gav and Kate a husband-and-wife team (and parents ourselves) with over 35 years of combined experience teaching Science and Maths across South Wales.

In recent years, especially after COVID, we’ve seen more and more young people struggling in mainstream school. Many are facing anxiety or have ALN/SEND needs that aren’t being fully supported. We’ve also seen the impact this has on families –  feeling overwhelmed, unsure where to start, and often navigating home educating without much guidance.

If that sounds like your situation, you’re not alone.

We know from personal experience that this isn’t just about education, it’s a big emotional decision for the whole family.

That’s why we created Crossroads.

Our aim is to offer friendly, flexible, and expert home education support across Wales and England. We work closely with families to create personalised learning that builds confidence, supports wellbeing, and helps each young person move forward in a way that works for them.

Whether you’re just starting to explore home educating or already on that journey, we’re here to make things feel clearer, calmer, and more manageable.

You don’t have to figure it all out on your own, we’re here when you need us.

Best Wishes

Gav & Kate

Kate Gibson

Co-founder

Hi, I’m Kate. I’ve been a Science teacher for 20 years, specialising in Biology, and I have a real passion for making learning fun and accessible — especially for students with additional needs. I’m also a mum, and when I’m not teaching, I love spending time with animals and enjoying music. My goal is always to create a welcoming space where every child can thrive.

Hi, I’m Gavin. I’ve been a Science and Maths teacher for nearly 20 years and love inspiring students to be their best. I’m passionate about sparking curiosity and creating a fun, engaging, and safe space where every student can thrive. Outside the classroom, I enjoy making things explode (in the name of science!), cars, and trying to beat my son at jiu-jitsu.

Hi, I’m Carrie. I bring over 20 years of experience across business and voluntary sectors, as well as the lived experience of being a mum to two neurodiverse children. As your Exam Officer (and the friendly voice behind your emails), I’m passionate about creating a level playing field so ALN students can sit their exams with confidence. With a methodical approach and genuine care, I aim to make the exam process as smooth and supportive as possible. d

TUTOR

Hi, I’m James. I’ve been teaching science and maths for over 20 years, making tricky ideas easier and more enjoyable for students aged 11–18. I love hands-on learning, from experiments in the lab to step-by-step problem solving, and I care just as much about supporting students personally as I do academically. Outside the classroom, you’ll usually find me with my family, swimming, climbing, woodworking — or running a “science experiment” at the barbecue!

Abby Klammer

TUTOR

Hi, I’m Abby. I’m a qualified teacher with 13 years’ experience working with children aged 3–16, both in the UK and abroad. Now focusing on tutoring, I love helping each child reach their full potential through a learning style that suits them best.

For almost 30 years, I have been actively involved in the education sector as a teacher, mentor, coach and senior leader, specialising in Mathematics, IT and Business Studies. I pride myself in my ability to foster excellent working relationships with students where they feel empowered to learn and thrive in a stimulating, safe environment. When I am not teaching my students you will find me with my family, enjoying sport or playing video games
