Why this course is more than just “outdoor fun”

  • Official, respected qualification — You’re working toward a Level 2 Extended Certificate from Agored Cymru.
  • Learning comes alive — Sessions happen outdoors at Ystradowen, Carmarthenshire, with practical workshops to apply what you learn.
  • Units that matter — You’ll cover topics like  flora & fauna of Wales, campcraft, habitat surveys, sustainable use of resources, personal safety outdoors, and more.
  • Structured, yet flexible — You’ll get workbook materials (online and hard copy), access to a Google Classroom for extra content/questions, assessments, and tutor feedback.
  • Credit-based design — To complete the Extended Certificate, you’ll need to accumulate at least 21 credits (units) including the practical sessions.

What it feels like

You arrive at our location in Ystradowen, ready for hands-on learning. You’ll strap on boots, perhaps study a trail with compass in hand, survey plants or insects, build outdoor habitats, and test your knowledge in real settings. Between practical days, you’ll work through units via Google Classroom, complete theory tasks, and reflect on your outdoor insights. Each session blends challenge and support, helping you grow stronger, sharper, and more connected to nature.
